David Porges is Founder & Principal of Common Purpose Consulting, assisting nonprofits and businesses with strategic planning, project management, board recruitment, employee engagement, volunteering, philanthropy, fundraising, communications and cross-sector convening.
Prior to opening his own agency, David was Founding Director of Corporate Responsibility at Grant Thornton and before this, spent 17 years with Deloitte, helping to establish its CSR office.
David’s innovative work at Deloitte included launching the Center for Leadership & Community, a national capacity-building program for nonprofit CEOs. In addition, he created Deloitte Academy, the firm’s signature platform for employees to engage students. In partnership with USC, David also helped produce LA’s first comprehensive report on military veteran need.
In 2007, David co-founded LA Community Leaders, a network of more than 120 CSR professionals. In 2009, he was appointed to the California Volunteers Commission and helped create its Business Partners Program, a statewide CSR network, which he co-leads. David is also an ambassador for IMPACT 2030, the global initiative encouraging businesses to collaborate on the UN Global Goals.
In 2013 David received the Outstanding Commissioner of the Year Award from Governor Jerry Brown and in 2014 was awarded the Hoffman Prize for his service to the state. In November 2017, he will be one of 30 alumni out of 3,000 to be recognized by Southern California Leadership Network as part of its 30th anniversary.
