ASD Partnered with Homes For Our Troops To Give Injured War Veteran Sgt. Toran Gaal a New Home
In July, 2016, Marine Sergeant Toran Gaal, an Afghanistan War veteran who lost both his legs and suffered brain injuries in combat, opened the front door of a new, mortgage-free, specially adapted home in Valley Center, California. The home was given to Gaal and his family by Homes for Our Troops (HFOT) and it featured a state-of-the-art solar power system donated by American Solar Direct (ASD) that will provide the Gaal family access to free, clean energy for years. ASD executives approached The Busby Group to document the event on video and generate local publicity for ASD. The video was challenging because ASD wanted to honor the good work of HFOT, capture the emotions of the Gaal family entering their new home for the first time, and yet still call attention to their donated, $60,000 solar energy system.
Our video team went to Valley Center two weeks before the key ceremony to record the installation of the solar panels and system at the Gaal home. Simultaneously, our publicists commenced pitching all local print, TV and radio outlets and relevant Veterans media, inviting them to attend the ceremony. More than 200 veterans, family members, friends and neighbors showed up to welcome the Gaals to the neighborhood and into their new home.
The video of the key ceremony earned praise from all parties (view on this page) and was featured on the ASD and HFOT websites and posted out via social media to great response. The San Diego Union Tribune, US Veterans Magazine, Escondido Times- Advocate and several other local newspapers provided coverage. Fox 5 KSWB-TV and KFMB-TV in San Diego used our footage of the ceremony in their evening and weekend newscasts. Most importantly, Sgt. Toran Gaal and his family received the well-deserved, extraordinary gift of a beautiful new home.
